Exciting Changes at Cocoons

We are thrilled to annouce that we are making some changes at Cocoons based on both amassing research that indicates the importance of education birth-8 and the well articulated needs of our parents.

Beginning September 2014, we are adding a toddler program, tweaking our existing programs, and extending aftercare hours. We are constantly looking for ways to make Cocoons even more magical than it is now!

Please take some time to read about the changes and contact us quickly if you are interested in registering for any for these programs.  All spots will be filled strictly on a 1st-come-1st serve basis.

Exciting Changes at Cocoons

During the 2014-15 Academic School Year

New Toddler Program

Limited to #8 Children

Given that well documented evidence continues to amass regarding the importance of birth thru 8 education, Cocoons is expanding the ages of children we teach to include a Toddler Program for children ages 2-3 to lay the foundation for future learning.  (No, they do not need to be potty trained!)

The program will be a nurturing, fun-filled, experientially based program with consistent exposure to books, art, music, small & gross motor activities, sensory activities, peers and buddying with older children, the garden, the barn, and outside fun. The development of the child’s expressive and receptive language skills will be fostered as we guide them in expressing their needs and ideas. Toddlers will learn, discover, create friendships, and have fun through both structured and unstructured play.

A downstairs classroom at Cocoons will be designed to effectively accommodate this age

A separate fenced area of the playground will be designated just for them.

Two experienced teachers will be hired to teach in this classroom

Toddlers will be able to attend either Tuesday/Thursday; Monday/Wednesday/Friday; or 5 days a week from 8:30-11:30 or 8:30 -3:00 and will be eligible to register for before-care from 8-8:30 and aftercare until 5:30.

Tuition will be the same as for all other children who attend Cocoons.

Kindergarten/1st Grade Multi Age Classroom Changes

Limited to #8 Students

During the 2013-14 school year, the kindergarten/1st grader’s primary classroom will be upstairs. Miss Peggy will continue to be the lead teacher with Miss Laura co-teaching the art, environmental education, and science curriculum. The curriculum will continue to be designed to meet each child’s needs at both the kindergarten and 1st grade level.

Limited Enrollment in First & Second Year Preschool Programs

Enrollment in the Green Room (First Year Preschool Classroom) will be limited to #13 children per day with #2 teachers and enrollment in the Blue Room (Second Year Preschool Classroom) will be limited to #16 students per day with #3 teachers. The design of the curriculum in these classrooms will remain the same! All spots will be filled on a 1st come 1st serve basis.

2014-2015 Aftercare Hours Have Been Expanded to 5:30

Due to popular demand, aftercare hours have been expanded to 5:30. The aftercare schedule will include opportunities for children to visit the barn, cook, do arts & crafts, and have fun with science as well as spend time exploring outside. We are also working on offering lessons like dance and karate through outside providers as an additional service to our families.
